The MSCEIT costs about $39 (USD) per use.
I must buy my MSCEIT uses from the publisher, just like everyone
else. (Although I do get a distributor discount.) However, MHS,
the test publisher, has agreed to allow qualified researchers to get MSCEIT uses for only $5 - plus you get the tests scored and the data
inserted into an Excel spreadsheet. I think this is a great deal.
But, it's also way beyond the budgets of many
people. You have lower-cost and free alternatives to consider.
However, I am not endorsing these as alternatives to ability
measures of EI! These are simple, self-report scales that measure
something very different but that might meet your needs for a
project, paper, thesis etc. |

Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Scale:
Developed by Marc Brackett, it is a self-report test based on the
ability model. Of course, such tests correlate less than .20 with
ability measures of EI, so this is a good alternative for papers
rather than dissertations.
Schutte Self-Report Scale: a widely-used
scale of EI. Same limitations as above.
Trait Meta-Mood Scale: an early measure of
mood and mood regulation by Salovey and Mayer.
Emotional Empathy Scale: a 30-item scale of
emotional empathy by Mayer and Caruso. |
